Scouting for Life Experiences[]




Scouting provides a neat way for kids to explore cool life experiences in a safe and supervised environment. Along the way they will make new friends and get to know helpful adult mentors that will help them achieve their ambitions. Many scout programs include weekly activity meetings, monthly outings and a unforgettable summer camp hi-adventure. Family participation is strongly encouraged. Here are some sample programs in the San Diego area:
- Cub Scouts [Grades K-5: Cub Dens for Boys and Girls]: "We provide ready-made opportunities for your family to do fun things together—because together—we can all grow into our very best future selves!" A new adventure every week which kids can make new friends, experience fun new activities, and partake in regular outings and field trips. It is all for building great family memories.
- Scouts BSA [Ages 11-17: Troops for Boys and Troops for Girls]: The traditional Scouting experience where boys and girls can have their share of adventure in the great outdoors. Develop a love of service by volunteering in your community, boost your leadership skills through fun and exciting challenges. Monthly experiences include outdoor camping, fire-building, trail cooking, wilderness survival, aquatics, shooting sports, rock-climbing and much more. Scouts BSA features 135 Merit Badge - each one provides a hands on engagement with real life experiences.
- Venturing BSA [Ages 14-20: Coed]: Venturing is a youth-led program all about building adventures with your friends. Choose to do activities that matter to you and develop essential skills like leadership, event-planning, organization, communication, and responsibility while having a blast on these amazing life-experiences.
- Sea Scouts BSA [Ages 14-20: Coed]: Provide limitless opportunities and exciting challenges that you won’t find anywhere else. Sea Scouts is a place to grow and learn, find adventure, and build long lasting friendships. For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.
- C.H.P. Explorers [Ages 15-20: Coed]: The California Highway Patrol's Explorer Program is designed for young men and women, 15 to 20 years of age, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve the people of California through discipline and a commitment to serving their community. Explorers assist the CHP both in office and out in the field. The experience they obtain here will be directly applicable to a future in law enforcement, while building relationships - with other Explorers, in the community they serve, and within the CHP. Experiences include attending Community Service events, staffing DUI Checkpoints, participating in a ride along in the field, and competing in Explorer Competitions.
- Aviation Explorers [Ages 15-20: Coed]: (Post 787- San Diego Aviation) Aviation Career Exploring is a hands-on program open to young men and women from the 6th grade to 20 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in the field of Aviation. Join us to discover the joy of aviation and learn from professional aviators, air traffic controllers, mechanics and other industry leaders.
- Cyber Aegis Teams [Ages 14-20: Coed]: Supporting those exploring careers in computers, information technology, and virtual reality. From organizing meetups to teaching the class, there are many lessons beyond cybersecurity that the students learn, such as the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and leadership. This is a great sandbox for students to try out and improve these skills. Aside from competitions, the program also allows students to tour multiple fields surrounding cyber defense.
- Exploring [Clubs =Ages 10-14 / Posts = Ages 14-20: Coed]: Exploring provides exciting activities and mentorship for youth looking to discover their future. Whether you’re a local organization looking to strengthen the community or a young person wanting to uncover the possibilities of your future, Exploring is a great place to start. Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and more.
- US Border Patrol Explorers (Ages 14-20 Coed)]: The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Law Enforcement Explorer Program is a volunteer program designed for young men and women ages 14 to 20 to receive experience in and exposure to law enforcement careers within CBP. Participate in real-life law enforcement scenarios, e.g., at a desert land border, you may observe Border Patrol Agents interpreting and following tracks to determine potential illegal alien and smuggler traffic, receive defensive skills training, learn drill techniques and ceremonial procedures and participate in community outreach programs. You may also have an opportunity to attend law enforcement competitions, conferences and leadership academies.
